The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM), or Ao Students’ Conference, today stated that it is not surprised to notice the impact of Survival 2007 felt in Assam and the region, and that they would continue to surge ahead with their mission of evicting illegal immigrants.
“The news item with regard to the Chief Minister of Assam giving his viewpoint on the issue of illegal immigrants that was published in various sections of the print media recently has been very interesting and we look forward to witness many more such drama, which we believe will unfold in the very near future,” a statement issued by the student body said.
“The AKM has all the sympathy, nay apathy, for the Chief Minister of Assam for his inability to address the problem of unabated influx of illegal immigrants into Assam. We express our solidarity with the indigenous people of Assam who might well be overwhelmed by the illegal immigrants in their own land very soon, that is, if they continue to have leaders like Tarun Gogoi at the helm of the State.”
Displaying awareness of the ‘malevolent’ vote bank politics of the powers that be, “whose despicable acts are responsible for the avalanche of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants infiltrating into the region,” the AKM condemned the statement and position of the Assam chief minister on this particular issue and advised the government of Assam to maintain close coordination with the neighbouring states in the region instead of blaming them in order to contain the menace of illegal immigrants.
“Assam is more vulnerable to the annihilating threat posed by the illegal immigrants and therefore the political leaders of Assam should tackle the problem at home in the first place before pointing fingers at other states. We believe the law makers and political leaders of Assam should be aware of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act, 1873.”
The students appreciated the Assam Police and Administration at Mariani for their timely action taken against the illegal immigrants who fled Mokokchung in the aftermath of launching of Survival 2007.
AKM is now in the process of collecting Action Taken Report from all the federating Range Students’ Unions and their subordinate member villages’ students’ bodies and the Putu Menden of all the villages under Mokokchung district and all the Ward Authorities of Mokokchung town, and we shall begin with our next phase of Survival 2007 basing on the report of the respective Authorities.
“AKM once again warn the individuals who are still harboring the illegal immigrants as well as those local women married to the illegal immigrants. Their defying of the clarion call makes the AKM wonder if they are bent on creating unwanted tension in the district, provoking confrontation between the AKM and the district Administration.”
