• Allows unfurling of flags in administrative offices
• Justice delayed is justice denied, reiterates KU
Mon, January 23 (MExN): On special request from the State Government, the Konyak civil society organisations (CSOs) have agreed to ‘soften its stance’ on boycotting all national events within Konyak soil, with certain conditions.
On Sunday, the Konyak CSOs’ Media Cell, in a press communiqué, informed that an advisory board meeting of the Konyak Union on January 22, resolved to allow unfurling of the National flags at their respective administrative offices.
“However, the Konyak citizens shall completely abstain from participating in the forthcoming Republic day celebration,” it stated.
Calling on every Konyak citizen to strictly adhere to the resolution, the Konyak CSOs underscored that “non deliverance of justice even after the lapses of 50 days is nothing but a ‘delay tactics of justice,’” and as such, appealed to the State Government to shoulder the responsibility and ensure that no stone is left unturned to deliver justice without much delay.
It also referred to the memorandum addressed to the President of India on December 6, 2021 which stated that, “All ranks and files involved in massacring 14 Konyak innocent lives must be booked immediately before applicable civil court and the justice taken report must be brought before the public domain by 25th Jan 2022,” and reiterated that “justice delayed is justice denied.” The Konyak Union resolves that every Konyak citizen must completely abstain from the republic day celebration within its customary jurisdiction as a sign of resentment and a fight for justice, the communiqué stated.
Further, it directed all its citizens including the public, students, government employees and politicians to completely abstain from participating during the Republic day celebration programme within its jurisdiction on January 26. It cautioned that “any individual/group that defies its directive shall be considered as a traitors and action shall be meted out as per the law of the land.”
It also appealed to the citizens to avoid any form of violence but to show one’s utmost resentment democratically.
As for the District Administration and the law enforcing authority, it requested them to “honour the sentiments of the Konyaks as well as those 14 innocent Konyak youths that were massacred by the Indian Armed forces.”
While clarifying that the directives were being served exclusively upon the Konyak citizens, the Konyak CSOs also appealed to all non Konyak citizens and officers posted and stationed within Konyak soil to “uphold the sentiments of the people as per the laid regulation since December 6, 2021.”
It further stated that the respective units of the Konyak Union, subordinating and federating units of the Konyak Students Union (KSU) have been empowered and endorsed to carry out the “Non cooperation” regulation for strict adherence during the forthcoming Republic Day celebration.
Meanwhile, the Konyak CSOs questioned the Government of India (GoI) on what symbolizes the celebration of the Republic day when “the Indian Army massacred its own citizen and still the culprits are scot free.” Laying emphasis on the Preamble to the Constitution of India, it further questioned the GoI as to why the words envisaged in the Preamble have been ‘dimmed’ and ‘light of justice’ is yet to be seen by the Konyak people.
KU on Aboi and Tobu district creation
Mon, January 23 (MExN): The Konyak Union on Sunday expressed dismay over the non inclusion of Aboi and Tobu while declaring the creation of new districts on December 18, 2021.
In a press release on Sunday, it said that the state cabinet’s sitting on the creation of new districts had cast a shadow on the Oting killings and “To add more salt to the wounds, the oldest district demand (Aboi & Tobu) were never included in its fast-tracking system of creating a new district/s in the State.”
Nevertheless, the Konyak Union stated that it would repose its trust on the state government to uphold the “justice for all” and attend to the call of the Konyaks for creation of new district.
In this connection, it also called upon the immediately Konyak legislators to immediately convene a meeting at the earliest, “before the situation gets out of hand.”
