MOKOKCHUNG, SEPTEMBER 3 (MExN): The Ao Lanur Telongjem (ALT) on Wednesday condemned the construction lapses at the 50-bedded Integrated AYUSH Hospital in Sabangya and demanded immediate action from the Department of Health & Family Welfare.
ALT expressed full support for the Chungtia Village Council and the Chungtia Students’ Union (CSU), highlighting concerns over substandard construction at the hospital, which were reportedly acknowledged by the contractor, KC Infra Projects Pvt Ltd. The organization said the contractor’s admission of “lapses” confirmed the grievances raised by the local bodies and amounted to a serious indictment of the project. ALT emphasized that public infrastructure projects, especially healthcare facilities, must be executed with the highest standards of quality and integrity.
The youth body commended the proactive stance of the village council and students’ union, noting that their ultimatum for a joint inspection was a reasonable and necessary step to ensure that rectification work is not merely superficial but addresses the core issues.
ALT expressed concern that despite these efforts, there had been no official response from the Department of Health & Family Welfare.
ALT called upon the department to immediately schedule a joint inspection involving the Chungtia Village Council, the Chungtia Students’ Union, the district administration, civil societies, and department officials. The inspection, it said, is crucial to transparently assess the extent of the damage and the quality of ongoing repairs.
The organization urged the department to ensure comprehensive rectification, stressing that repair work must be thorough and not a quick patch-up, with the contractor held accountable to standards that guarantee the hospital’s longevity and safety. ALT warned that meeting the January 2026 deadline should not come at the expense of quality, and that public satisfaction must take priority over expediency.
The youth body also highlighted the need for enhanced communication and transparency, criticizing the lack of response from the department. ALT called on officials to engage in open dialogue with stakeholders and provide a clear plan of action.
ALT reiterated that the construction of the AYUSH Hospital represents a significant investment in the health and well-being of the community and said it would continue to monitor the situation closely. The organization added that it would not hesitate to take further action to ensure that public concerns are addressed and a quality hospital is delivered to the people of Mokokchung.
