An Ode to Our Friend, late Mhathung Kikon

We first met in 2013. I still remember it like it was yesterday—not because of the date, but because something in our lives quietly shifted the moment we saw him. From that day on, we became very good friends. We became each other’s safe place.

Do you remember those long evenings? We would sit for hours, lost in conversations that wandered everywhere—from politics to faith, from silly worries to life’s biggest questions. We truly believed, didn’t we, that we could solve every mystery of the world if we just talked long enough. And when words were no longer enough, we would escape to some random forest, carrying whatever food we could find, spreading a cloth on the grass like children playing house. Those makeshift picnics in the heart of the wild—they weren’t fancy. But they were everything.

And now you’re gone. We keep saying that sentence in our heads, hoping it will feel less real. But it never does.

Dear friend, your absence already aches in ways we never expected. You had one of those rare souls—so kind, so free of bitterness. Not once did we ever hear you speak an unkind word about anyone.

Not once. You moved through the world gently, as if you were made of something softer than the rest of us. Your smile was quiet but warm. Your hands were always ready to help. And your spirit—calm, cheerful, unshakable—we never saw anger touch you. Not even for a moment.

We learned so much from you without even realizing it. You didn’t preach. You simply lived. And in your living, you showed us what it means to be good. Truly good. It felt as if God had sent you to us—like you were a gift we never deserved but were given anyway. You taught us the most important lessons: to be kind, to listen, and to love without expecting anything in return.

Thank you. For every laugh, every silence, every meal shared under the trees. For every moment you made this world feel a little softer.

May your soul now rest in His heavenly embrace, where there is no more goodbye. Until we meet again—and we truly believe we will—you will live in every corner of our hearts.
