ANGSU condemns alleged assault on minor, seeks swift action
Medziphema, July 13 (MExN): The All Nagaland Gorkha Students' Union (ANGSU) on Sunday strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor Gorkha student in Medziphema and urged the authorities to conduct a prompt, impartial and thorough investigation into the case.
In a statement, the union expressed “profound concern” over the alleged incident involving a minor Gorkha student and alleged that the assault took place on July 7. It identified the accused as Pauminlun Gante of Medziphema.
Describing allegations of sexual violence against children as “deeply disturbing”, ANGSU said such cases demand the utmost seriousness, compassion and urgency from individuals, institutions and the justice system.
The union urged the authorities to investigate the matter promptly and, if the allegations are substantiated through due process, prosecute the accused under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and other applicable laws.
It also stressed the need to ensure the protection, privacy, dignity and well-being of the minor throughout the legal process, including access to appropriate medical care, psychological support and legal assistance.
Appealing to the public, ANGSU urged members of society to stand united in condemning the alleged crime and support efforts to ensure justice for the victim.
The union also expressed gratitude to Abou-u Kuotsu, Gaon Bura for his swift action in helping to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused and for expelling him from the ward.
ANGSU said the GB's leadership had brought “a beacon of hope for justice” to the victim and expressed appreciation for his support in pursuing justice.
