Announce date and conduct ULB elections: JD (U) to Nagaland Govt

Dimapur, July 26 (MExN): The Janata Dal (United) has urged the State Government to immediately announce the date and conduct election to the Urban Local Bodies.

In a press release on Tuesday, the JD (U) expressed disappointment at the State Government’s inability to hold election to local bodies despite being repeatedly reprimanded by the apex court of the country. It said that the opportunity for local self-governance was a Constitutional right for the people at large.

Stating that shying away from such obligation raises a doubt on the credibility of the Government of the day, it added: “It only goes on to reveal that the Government at the top has no guts to face the public at the local level for fear of losing the elections.” This, the JD (U) said, may be “interpreted as an apparent consciousness of the Government of the day that public wrath against its mis-governance is looming large.” Therefore buying time by resorting to various Administrative processes is one way to hoodwink the prying eyes of both the Apex court above and the public below, it maintained.

As such, the JD (U) urged the State Government to immediately announce the date and conduct the election, stating that it “dares the Government to hold the election to the Municipalities before the next election to the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly as an acid test to ascertain its actual position on the ground than trying to avoid it.”
