Bengaluru, JUNE 24 (IANS): One of Apple's biggest events, the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2020, on Tuesday unveiled Apple’s iOS software’s new version iOS 14 and its important features.
App Library
Apple finally introduced the first version of iOS 14 and highlighted a number of improvements in the design and features of the software from its previous versions. Apple has reworked some of the key elements of the software for iPhones. iOS 14 will come with a new home screen page to house the application icons in a list view. This App Library will include different sorting options to make organisation of apps easier.
Smart Stack
Apple introduces new widgets called Smart Stack that will include a gallery of widgets on the home screen. These resizable widgets can be changed according to different times of the day, and can be put anywhere on the home screen.
New Siri features
Apple is also upgrading Siri with new compact UI and Siri translations. Siri can translate over 65 languages. This feature will be improved in iOS 14. Siri will also get a new voice in English. In the new iOS version, Siri will come up with responses as notifications on top of the page. It will now be able to send audio messages to the users, and will also run voice dictation to help keep users words more private.
Messages
Apple Messages app will also have new and improved features like the ability to Pin chats and new Memojis. There will be groups where users can interact with their friends and family in a better way.
Maps
With iOS 14, Apple Maps will be able to help users find restaurants and new places to visit like a guide. It will also come with a dedicated and detailed cycling option with the aim to cut down the carbon footprint around the globe. However, initially this feature will be available in some cities of the world.
App Clips
App Library will have lightweight apps called App Clips, less than 10MB in size that can mimic the important functions of some full apps, and users may not have to download them on the phone.
Other features
With iOS 14, users can download and stream Apple TV+ shows over cellular networks. Apple will bring several other new features such as Picture in Picture mode. Translate app, and many more.
iPadOS
Apple has also announced iPadOS 14 with a number of new features such as a new sidebar, which will help users with quick and easy access to files, folders, and images.
