AR joins campaign against drug abuse, Illegal trafficking

Kohima, June 27 (MExN): Along with the rest of the world, Headquarter, Inspector General Assam Rifles – North (HQ IGAR-N), Kohima observed International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illegal Trafficking across Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh on June 26. 

Various activities like awareness lectures, painting competitions, plantation drive and road march were conducted with an aim to spread awareness about global drug problem and eliminate drug misuse during the observance, informed a press release from  PRO, HQ IGAR (N).

Jalukie Battalion: The Battalion of Assam Rifles organised Plantation drive, Painting competition, road march to create awareness against use of Drugs and illicit trafficking at Gaili, Tenning town  and Zeme Women Organization Children Home and Christian Servanthood Ministry Children Home at Peren town.

Stress was laid to create awareness to prevent people from getting addicted to drugs, liqour and easy money through illicit trafficking especially the young generation, the release said. 

Children used colours to their imagination as an expression of their determination toward action and cooperation to achieve the goal of a society free of drugs and illegal activities, it said.  A total of 70 saplings were also planted and children were helped with gifts for their drawings, it added. 

Ghaspani Battalion:  The battalion observed the day at  Ghaspani with a lecture cum discussion session focusing on imparting awareness on the social ills of drugs and substance abuse.Information on emergent actions to curb peddling, sale and pilferage of the contraband were also imparted during the event, the PRO release said.  

Dimapur Battalion: The battalion conducted lecture focusing on the ramification of contraband drugs and its aftermath on physical and mental health at Doyapur village, Dimapu. 15 boys and 5 girls took part in the event.

Kiphire Battalion: The battalion interacted with the locals of Kiphre Town, Thongsonyu and Luphokong villages of Kiphire district on the occasion with the objective of increasing the awareness on damages to health due to drug abuse.

People were also sensitised regarding precautions to be followed for COVID-19 and masks and sanitizers were distributed to locals of the village, the release said. 

Similar events were organised by the Jairampur Battalion at Jairampur, Longvi, Lungpang and Nampong Villages in Changlang District of Arunachal Pradesh while the Khonsa Battalion observed day at Laju  Village under Tirap District, the release added.
