We have overheard from our grand parents that when a hen is brought from the bazaar it is advised that the feathers are never to be burnt in the hearth lest the other hens are affected by that alien fowl. Likewise, we Nagas are quite feasible in copying the habits of other people whatever they come across or whatever they visualise in the television. The bursting of crackers in the event of a match, bursting of crackers during Diwali, bursting of crackers awaiting Dec’ eve, bursting of crackers on Christmas Night. The outcome, no one conceptualises the effect, but what we have is most of the infants and small children visiting the clinics with fever and cough, vomiting and dying with the doctors unable to diagnosed the cause.
Normally, Diwali is celebrated with lighting of candles and is not suppose to be with bombs. We Nagas, we usually abhors to think that we are Indians but we try to imitate almost each and every habit or practices practiced by the so called Indians. We called ourselves Christians but in practice it is not so. Our parents are so snobbish that they try to fulfil each and every wish of their children though it is out of the norms of a Christian family. What outcome we have is, children below the age of 18 getting drunk and fighting in the street on Christmas Eve and New Year Eve. Liquor/ Alcohol is ingested by the whites just as appetisers but just a sip or two likewise our forefathers uses the rice brewed beer as health drinks and limited themselves from taking excessively as it normally result in a brawl if consumed in large quantity because we are hot blooded and alcohol excite our yellow heart to howl when drunk.
What civility have we learnt from our parents or school? What morality has been sown from the church? Is it the influence of other source from abroad? Or do we have a different god?
