Dimapur, June 24 (MExN): More organisations and unions today expressed their outrage and condemned the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old minor girl near Aboi town, Mon district on June 20. Six suspects have been arrested so far in connection with the incident.
CYO, CCU & CUA: The Chaoha Youth Organization (CYO), Chaoha Citizens’ Union (CCU) and Chaoha Union Aboi (CUA) while condemning the act vehemently as “heinous and inhumane,” appealed the law enforcing agency to award the culprits with befitting punishment with non-bailable sentence.
The CYO also called for immediate action against the perpetrators and to address violence against women across the state, a joint statement from the three unions stated.
“Violence against women is not a women’s issue, it is a human rights issue as women should be able to live safely, feel protected and grow up free of violence,” it added.
It further maintained that the CYO, CCU & CUA shall no “longer condone such inhuman crime committed upon its fellow sister” and demanded justice for the victim.
The unions also appealed to the concerned authority to investigate into the matter and ensure that “the accused are brought to book under the stringent penal provisions and secure the severest punishment to deter such offence in the future.”
LSU: In a press release, the Longwa Students’ Union (LSU) expressed anger over the incident and said that such an act is not acceptable in any society.
Vehemently condemning the “inhumane act” of the culprits, the LSU appealed every right thinking citizen and civil societies to denounce the anti-social behavior and said that such kind of social evil should not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Stringent punishment should be given to all the culprits as per the provision of law, demanded the LSU in the release issued by its President Jeu Konyak and General Secretary, NY Ongshah.
The union also extended its deepest sympathy and solidarity to the victim and her family and further prayed for quick recovery of the victim from mental and physical trauma.
LUK: The Langmeing Union Kohima (LUK), while vehemently condemning the ‘inhumane act,’ applead to concern authority to award befitting punishment to the perpetrators as per the law.
A press release from LUK President, Hamnyei Konyak and General Secretary, Manchem Konyak also urged all the right thinking citizens to condemn such heinous crime.
