ASTD arranges for transport of stranded people to Mkg

DIMAPUR, MAY 12 (MExN): The Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASTD), in coordination with the district administration, has been arranging for the transportation stranded citizens from Dimapur to Mokokchung. 


500 people were transported in 15 buses on May 11 while 100 people were also sent on May 12. 


On May 11, two of the 15 buses were arranged by the district administration and the rest was arranged by the ASTD, while the fuel was provided by the district administration. The buses were sourced from Hope Academy and Maple Tree School, Dimapur. 


On May 12, two of the buses were sourced from SM college and Hope Academy school, while the district administration arranged one bus. As of late evening, the ASTD informed that 200 passengers are still awaiting their turn to go to Mokokchung.


The ASTD meanwhile informed that around 2000 people are stranded in Dimapur. 


It said that the union would continue to arrange for transportation till the deadline provided by the government for inter district movement.  


Financial aid was also provided by the DCP, Zone II, Aotula Imchen, IPS; DABA; Minister, Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir; MLA Imkong L Imchen, Moatoshi, Jemti Mollier and B Toshi Aonok.  


The ASTD meanwhile informed that Minister of Higher & Technical Education & Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along arranged food for the traveller in Kohima on May 11.


The ASTD meanwhile stated that the government is struggling to requisition transportation facilities and the students unions are taking initiative to help the government in this area.   


 “It’s a sign of government just in power without authority. At this rate, students' union is apprehensive of government inefficiency in taking care of thousands returnees from other states” stated a member associated with the initiative.
