ATMA conducts various programmes

Tuensang, May 14 (MExN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Tsaru Block, Tuensang district conducted trainings and demonstrations programme on various topics at Alisopur village on May 11. The resource persons were Thritiba Sangtam, A.O, BTT Convenor Tsaru block, Dr. T. Arenmongla (BTM), Tiyongnaro (ATM) and Imlinukshi (ATM).

In another session Kisan Ghostis on Mushroom Cultivation was also conducted where the resource person explained how mushroom cultivation could strengthen local livelihoods through generation as a fast yielding nutritious source of food and serve as a reliable source of income.

Meanwhile Block Farmers Advisory Committee (BFAC) meeting was also held at Alisopur village. During the meeting BTM, Dr. T. Arenmongla highlighted about the activities that was conducted in the previous years and explained about the role of BFAC members. The ATMA team highlighted various agendas while discussions on various farming activities to be undertaken at block level were taken up.

New Food Security Group (FSG) under the nomenclature “ASI THRI” was formed and mobilized with 10 members and a sum of Rs. 10,000 as revolving fund was deposited in their account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

After the programme; Soybean seeds, Mushroom Spawns and Hand Pruner were distributed to the farmers wherein Seed Money of Rs. 10,000 each was given to Sudong FSG Kiding village, Amujang SHG Tronger village and Avi SHG Longkhetpeh village through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Thirty-two farmers from 5 villages attended the programme along with the officials and ATMA functionaries, a press release informed. 

ATMA Kohima: ATMA Kohima block conducted Kisan Goshti on May 13 at the Integrated Farm School in Chedema.  As part of the programme, demonstration on soya bean cultivation was demonstrated to the farmers by the ATMA functionaries. The resource person briefed the participants on the different technical aspects of cultivating soya bean. 

In another session, the ATMA functionaries also briefed the participating farmers on the package of practice for the management of Fall Armyworm infestation in Maize. This was followed by interaction session among the functionaries and the farmers to answer the various queries and expressing the concerns related to cultivating of different crops.

Altogether the programme was attended by nineteen farmers which include the farmer friends, farm school teacher and members of Food Security Group (FSG) and Farmers’ Interest Group (FIG). The resource persons were Rokuotuono Phira and Thejavinuo Mepfuo, ATMs of ATMA Kohima Block, a press release informed.  

ATMA Longleng: ATMA Longleng Tamlu block conducted Kisan Gosthi cum field day at Areca nut farm school, Tamlu village on May 13. Moasunep, BTM explained on the economic benefits of intercropping during the long pre-bearing stage of Areca nut. He explained that Areca nut has shallow root zones and so it allows the root space for other crops like Spices, Tubers and Corms.

Farm school teacher, K. Bongjai explained on how to raise areca nut seedlings in the nursery. She emphasized on selecting the right mother palm and seed nut as the prerequisite in raising good seedling in the nursery. She also demonstrated on preparation of seed beds and method of planting in the nursery. An interactive session was held where the farmers shared about their experiences in Areca nut farming.
