Mokokchung, May 26 (MExN): The Agricultural Technology Management agency (ATMA) Kobulong Block conducted various activities at Yimchalu and Mopungchuket villages on May 21 and 22.
According to a press release from the BTT Convenor, ATMA Kobulong, received on Tuesday, training on scientific management of Fall Army Worm (FAW) in maize and demonstration on oyster mushroom cultivation was conducted at Yimchalu village on May 22.
During the training, resource person Kajenchila Longchar who is the AO (Agri dept) and BTT Convenor stressed on metamorphosis, identification and management strategies of FAW in maize production and Nuksungingla Jamir ATM carried out the demonstration on oyster mushroom cultivation.
Jamir imparted hands on demonstration on method of cultivation practices such as selection of substrate, different methods of sterilization, substrates preparation, inoculation of spawn, and maintenance of cropping room. To further encourage the farmers printed leaflets, oyster mushroom spawns, and bio-control pesticides were distributed to the farmers. Importance of M-Kisan SMS portal registration to enable and provide data advisories and information regarding agricultural practices through SMS to farmers were also highlighted during the programme, according to the release. Altogether 20 farmers attended the training and demonstration programme.

Meanwhile, the ATMA Kobulong Block also organised a farmers’ exposure visit to a Shiitake Mushroom production unit at Mopungchuket village on May 21, with the aim to enable farmer to farmer interaction and make them witness practical examples.
Resource person Imtinungsang, a progressive shiitake farmer shared on how he ventured into mushroom farming and also imparted knowledge on cultivation methods and the economic value of shiitake mushrooms. He further urged and encouraged his fellow farmers to venture into this type of farming as it is cost effective and consumes less time for production.
Later, Nuksungingla Jamir, ATM, highlighted the importance of M-Kisan SMS portal registration and also elaborated on awareness of identification, lifecycle and management strategies for FAW. ATMA Staff along with 25 farmers went for the within-district exposure visit, the release stated.
