Mokokchung, March 11 (MExN): In commemoration of 75 years of India’s Independence (Bharat ka Amrut Mahotsav), an awareness programme for women beneficiaries under National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) was held at Ongpangkong Salang, Mokokchung on March 11, organized by District Welfare Office, Mokokchung.

According to a DIPR report, speaking on the topic ‘gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow’, guest speaker Molusen Imchen from MDLSA maintained that basic human rights are provided to every individual irrespective of gender but as social evils and discrimination in society mostly affect women. Therefore, the Government of India has formulated various schemes and laid down laws to assist women. She also proposed that it is important to create awareness on the subject for a safer society.

Guest speaker, Asong Yaden from SAKHI One Stop Centre, Mokokchung highlighted some of the services provided by the Centre to women in distress.

Earlier in the programme, District Welfare Officer, Mokokchung Hebou Rio delivered the welcome address while a vote of thanks was proposed by Sunepwapang, CDPO.
