TUENSANG, OCTOBER 7 (MExN): The Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR), in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit, Tuensang, organised a one-day awareness programme on Child Rights and Child Protection at Chang Khuli Setshang Hall, Tuensang, on October 7.
Addressing the programme, Deputy Commissioner Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, NCS, underscored the need to protect every child from discrimination and abuse. She said that cases of unreported domestic abuse exist in all communities and must be eradicated. Rutsa called upon elders, community leaders, NGOs, student organisations, and parents to uphold child rights and protection in the district.
The resource persons, Lichani Murry, Legal Consultant, NSCPCR; Akumla Longchari, Member, NSCPCR; and Aying Wangsha, Member, NSCPCR, spoke on topics including the Juvenile Justice Act and Adoption Rules, the POCSO Act, and Rights of Children under the Right to Education with focus on child labour.
The keynote address was delivered by Secretary, Social Welfare and Secretary, NSCPCR, Yongchingkumla, NCS. The programme was chaired by Project Coordinator, Hongen Thangty Chang.
DCPO Tuensang, Yangtriba Sangtam, presented a brief report on child-related cases in the district, followed by an open discussion to emphasise the importance of child rights and protection.
