Mokokchung, March 3 (MExN): An awareness programme on food safety and quality control with special emphasis on meat products was organized by Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) in co-ordination with Food Safety Branch, Chief Medical Officer Office, Mokokchung at MMC Conference Hall, Mokokchung on March 3.

The programme was chaired by Shashank Pratap Singh, ADC & Administrator, MMC, who welcomed participants and remarked that consumption of meat is an integral and essential part of every family thus it becomes necessary for meat stalls to maintain hygiene as well as life stock certification, which is a must.

Merenlemba Ao, Designated Officer, Food Safety, Mokokchung discussed certain concerns in regard to food safety and quality control with special focus on meat products. He stressed on location and size of meat shops, equipments and accessories, transportation, pest control and personnel hygiene, sanitary practices and other requirements.

Dr B M Sunep, CVO, Mokokchung delivered a short briefing on the importance of hygienic meat. And Lanu Tsuknung, Implementing Agency, MMC Abattoir made comments on the matter.

The participants included butchers and meat stall runners, AWUM office bearers, All Managing Board Members (MMC Abattoir), village council chairman and one member each from Mokokchung, Ungma, Chuchuyimpang and Khensa.

The programme concluded with an open house discussion, followed by a camp for onsite registration and licensing.
