AYO says 14 days institutional quarantine should be mandatory

DIMAPUR, MAY 15 (MExN): The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) today said that any person returning to Nagaland should undergo institutional quarantine for 14 days regardless of which zone he/she is returning from.

As per the Nagaland Governments’ SOP, asymptomatic persons returning from green and orange zones will undergo 3 days institutional quarantine followed by 14 days home quarantine.

“This decision taken by the government at this juncture is likely to put its populace at greater risk,” a press release from the AYO stated, and pointed out that this decision is also not as per the guidelines of the central government.

“It is clearly mentioned in point number 17.0 of the guidelines that the quarantined people need to be discharged at the end of 14 days of incubation period provided samples are negative on resampling. Instructions should be provided to self monitor their health at their home (home quarantine) for the next 14 days…” the AYO said.

It further stated that the government should ensure that its quarantine facilities in all district headquarters are functional and that travelers destined for the districts may be able to undergo institutional quarantine in their home districts.

“This will ease the physical and mental stress of the travelers and also not overwhelm the frontline workers and healthcare facilities in Dimapur and Kohima,” it added.

The AYO meanwhile also requested all village/colony/ward panchayats to be vigilant for persons who have returned from outside the State and have not undergone the necessary screening and quarantine. If any such case arises, the matter may be immediately reported to the government help-lines (Kohima Helpline- 8575228686 and Dimapur Control Room - 6009920884), it informed
