In a major breakthrough, the Kohima Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) robbery case.

The team leader of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Kohima Police confirmed the development and stated that one person was arrested during an operation on the night of June 20.

The arrested individual is a resident of Kohima and is reportedly employed as a driver with a state government department.

The burglary occurred on the intervening night of June 2 and June 3 at the KMC Complex, involving a large amount of money.

The police soon formed the SIT to investigate the case.

According to the police, the arrested person recently purchased a brand-new Jimny in Kohima using cash suspected to be part of the money stolen from the KMC office.

Prior to the breakthrough, police, in a nutshell said it looked at ongoing burglary cases, purchases of new vehicles, plot of land or those engaged in car rental or those making hefty bank transfer.

Following his arrest last night and subsequent police interrogation, it was learnt that the accused has admitted to the crime.

Police further suspect his involvement in other past burglary cases, as well as the possible involvement of accomplices. These aspects, however, are under investigation.

More details are awaited.
