Call for state-wide business closure garners more support

Dimapur, September 14 (MExN): Following the DCCI and CNCCI’s call for state-wide closure on September 16 as a sign of protest against ‘multiple and rampant’ taxation, various organizations on Tuesday extended their support and solidarity.

DDCF: The Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum (DDCF) endorsed the DCCI’s decision and urged all its tribal and non-tribal affiliated communities to fully support the total shutdown of all shops and business establishments. “The forum stands in solidarity with the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry DCCI and Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce &Industry (CNCCI) who has also announced state-wide closure of all shops and business establishments on September 16 and would like to fully extend its support for the genuine ‘issue of illegal and multiple- taxation’, which is affecting every citizens of the state,” the Forum stated in a press release on Tuesday.

GBs Union Dimapur: The Gaonburahs Union Dimapur on Tuesday voiced full support for the DCCI’s call for ‘total shutdown of shops and business establishments on September 16’ against multiple and rampant illegal taxation by various groups.

KVYO: The Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) also extended support to the one-day shop closure throughout the state on September 16 called by the CNCCI.

The Organisation requested all the civil society organizations (CSOs) and NGOs to support the CNCCI’s call, “as it not just affecting the business Community alone but the general public too.”

The ‘so-called’ illegal taxation is hampering the developmental work progress throughout the state; the KVYO stated and asked the government to come up with a concrete plan to tackle the menace of illegal tax in the state. It also urged the state government to expedite the matter forwarded by the business community at the earliest.

Unity Village: As per its resolution adopted on September 13, the Unity Village Council notified all concerned that the village “shall not entertain any sort of underground faction taxes on business establishment/individual/household, within the village jurisdiction except ‘One Government one tax’.”

WDCCI: In response to the CNCCI’s for imposing state-wide business closure on September 16, the Wokha District Chamber of Commerce & Industry (WDCCI) on Tuesday reaffirmed that there is “complete unanimity” among the public throughout the state over the issue of multiple taxation by the NPGs.

The Chamber also acknowledged that there is “utter lack of coordination and sensitivity on the part of the Government agencies in addressing needs and concerns of the business community.” In this regard, the Chamber appealed the business community in Wokha district to close their establishments on September 16 and  stand  with the rest of the state in the fight against rampant multiple and illegal taxation by various groups and government agencies. While regretting the inconvenience caused to the general public, the WDCCI requested everyone to cooperate and ensure peaceful closure of all shops within Wokha district on the mentioned date.
