On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mokokchung felicitated Maha Vir Chakra Awardee, Hony Capt. Imliakum Ao at Multipurpose Hall near Helipad in Mokokchung.

Speaking at the programme, Capt. Imliakum Ao who hails from the 2 Naga Regiment of the Indian Army, expressed gratitude towards the BJP Mokokchung for organizing the program to honor his gallantry award during the auspicious week of Kargil Vijay Diwas.

During a brief reminiscence of his account during the Kargil war in 1999 along the LoC between India and Pakistan, Ao added that he and his friend Sepoy Atharin had volunteered to be scouts for strategizing the motor position of the Pakistan army and that during their reconnaissance mission he had chopped off the heads of two enemy Pakistani soldiers with a dao just like how their Naga ancestors had done in the past.

The Capt. also said that on account of his actions during the Kargil war, the point between P.T. 5113 and Naga Hill was now named as ‘Imli Point.’

He went on to say that for someone to become a warrior, they should have faith while also stating one needs to instill nine characteristics in life – manners, morals, respect, character, common sense, trust, patience, integrity, and love.

In a brief talk with the media personals, Capt. Imliakum asserted that in today’s time and place, the educated youth should focus on appearing in more competitive exams, through which they would uplift society in general. 

BJP Mokokchung, President, Imolemba Jamir, during a short exhortation, acknowledged Capt. Imliakum Ao for achieving greatness and bringing Laurels to the Aos. He further went on to state that he was a role model for the youth, adding that he has uplifted the spirit and encouraged many people through his deeds. 

At the programme, short speeches were delivered by Imnakika, state council member, BJP Mokokchung, Imtichizung, Mandal convener, BJP Mokokchung, Temsumoa Imsong, Chuchuyimpang village council, Raren Longkumer, Tatar, Ungma Village council. 

The programme was chaired by Meyisangla Mollier, President, Mahila Morcha, BJP Mokokchung while the vote of thanks was presented by Rongsenyanger Aier, President, Minority Morcha, BJP Mokokchung.
