New Delhi, July 22 (PTI) Girls outshone boys in class 12 CBSE exam even as the overall pass percentage dipped from last year's 99.37 per cent to 92.71 per cent, officials said on Friday.
While last year the result was declared on basis of a special assessment scheme as exams could not be conducted due to the pandemic, this year the exams were conducted in two terms.
The pass percentage in 2020 was 88.78 per cent while in 2019, it was 83.40 per cent, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said.
The board did not announce a merit list this year as well. It discontinued the merit lists from 2020 when the schools were closed due to pandemic.
Some students and schools claimed they had received the results much earlier than the official announcement.
This year, the pass percentage of girls stood at 94.54 per cent while that of boys was 91.25 per cent. The transgender candidates' pass percentage was 100 per cent.
A total of 33,432 students have scored above 95 per cent marks while 1,34,797 have scored 90 pc marks.
Over 67,000 students have been placed in compartment.
The board committee deliberated at length on the discussions of the committee. It was decided to adopt the recommendations and the weightage of first term was fixed at 30 per cent and the second term was fixed at 70 per cent. However, for practical equal weightage was decided to be given for boh terms in computation of final results, a senior board official explained.
The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) performed the best with 98.93 per cent students passing the exam followed by schools run by Central Tibetan School Administration (CTSA) with 97.96 pass percentage, Kendriya Vidyalayas (97.04 per cent), government aided (94.81 per cent), government schools (93.38 per cent) and private schools (92.20 per cent).
CBSE Class 10 results announced, girls outshine boys
The Central Board of Secondary Education on Friday announced Class 10 results, which showed that 94.40 per cent of students cleared the exam with girls outperforming boys by a margin of 1.41 per cent.
This is the first time that the CBSE has announced both class 10 and 12 results on the same day.
"The (Class 10) result has been announced," a CBSE official said.
The pass percentage of girls stood at 95.21 per cent while 93.80 per cent of boys cleared the exam. The pass percentage of transgender candidates is 90 per cent.
CBSE Class 12 result record jump in pass percentage against pre-pandemic years
This year, the overall pass percentage in the CBSE class 12 exam has gone up by over 9 per cent with a jump in the number of candidates scoring more than 90 and 95 pc marks in comparison to the pre-pandemic academic sessions.
This year, the pass percentage stand at 92.71 per cent with 33,432 candidates having scored above 90 per cent and 1,34,797 above 95 pc.
In 2021, the pass percentage in class 12 stood at 99.37 per cent, the highest ever recorded by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The last-year result was declared on the basis of a special assessment scheme as no exams were conducted due to the pandemic.
Similarly, in 2020, the exams were mid-way when a nationwide lockdown was announced to contain the spread of COVID-19 and results were announced later on the basis of an assessment scheme which took into account students' performance in the exams conducted before the lockdown. The pass percentage that year stood at 88.78.
In 2019 i.e. before the outbreak of virus, the pass percentage was recorded at 83.40, whereas the figures in 2018, 2017 and 2016 stood at 83.01, 82.02 and 83.05, respectively.
A similar jump has been seen in the number of candidates scoring more than 90 and 95 per cent.
In comparison to the 2019 figure, the number of candidates scoring above 90 and 95 per cent has gone up by at least 40,000 and 15,000, respectively, in 2022.
In 2020 and 2021, 1,57,934 and 1,50,152 candidates scored above 90 per cent, and 38,686 and 70,004 scored above 95 per cent.
These numbers were relatively low in 2019 and the preceding years.
In 2019, 17,693 scored 95 plus and 94,299, 90 plus.
In 2018, the number of 95 and 90 pc scorers stood at 12,737 and 72,599, respectively.
For the first time, the CBSE exams were conducted in two terms. While the first term was conducted in November-December in 2021, the second term were held in May-June.
A weightage of 30 per cent has been given to first term marks while 70 pc weightage has been accorded to the second term marks.
No merit lists for CBSE class 10, 12 exams to avoid 'unhealthy competition' among students
The Central Board of Secondary Education will not declare merit lists for class 10 and 12 exams to avoid "unhealthy competition" among students, Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said on Friday.
The CBSE did not announce merit lists in 2020 and 2021 as the results were declared on the basis of alternate assessment scheme because exams could not be conducted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"As per earlier decision of the board, no merit list will be declared to avoid unhealthy competition among students. The board is also not awarding first, second and third division to its students," Bhardwaj said.
"The board will issue merit certificates to 0.1 per cent of students who have scored the highest marks in subjects," he added.
The results for the 2022 examination for classes 10 and 12 were announced on Friday. While 92.7 per cent of students cleared the Class 12 exam, 94.40 per cent passed the Class 10 exam.
In Class 12, 1,34,797 students scored above 95 per cent and 33,432 scored above 90 per cent.
In Class 10, 64,908 candidates scored above 95 per cent and 2,36,993 scored above 90 per cent.
