Chathe’s riverine fishery project inaugurated

Dimapur, June 9 (DIPR): Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio has inaugurated the Riverine Fishery Development Project at Chathe River near Chumukedima. Rio, in his speech said that the Riverine project is unique and first of its kind in the country and appealed to the Chumukedima village to nurse and preserve it and make the project a success story so that other projects of such kind would be initiated in other parts of the State. Nagas are huge meat-eaters and  know only how to consume but lack knowledge in production and preserving them. “We should aim to produce locally which would be fresher as well as healthier”, he said.

He called on both the new and old Chumukedima villages to take care of the project, to provide  security and to check anti-social elements from using chemicals, explosives and poisoning. He also asked them to try for self-sufficiency, if not surplus, in fish production.

He lauded the Fishery Department for completing the project in a record time of about 2 years. The project was funded by NABARD to the tune of Rs 2 Crores and acknowledged the assistance. He also claimed that when DAN Government came to power, the 365 Crores  one-time grant to the State was used for developmental projects and undertook many more which were lying inactive and incomplete for many years in the past.

He assured that the DAN Government was striving to be innovative as well as to be a role model for the benefit of the general public.

Other important officials who attended the inaugural function were Minister for Roads & Bridges, Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs, Village Council members of both new and old Chumukedima village and officials from NABARD.
