Children take their first step towards preserving earth

Preschoolers of Apple Kindergarten and Preschool, Dimapur with a watering can during the Earth Day Campaign observed from April 1 to 20, 2011.
 
Dimapur, April 21 (MExN): With the help of Resource Centre, Dimapur and Earth Day Network International, the Apple Kindergarten and Preschool, Dimapur hosted Earth Day Campaign from April 1 to 20, 2011. Emphasis was held on Eco friendly topics in the curriculums, sensitizing children about the effects of pollution, creating environmental awareness and developing civic sense are what our preschool stands for.
A press note issued by the Management, Apple Kindergarten  and Preschool, Dimapur informed that the Bulletin Board at the school was maintained and decorated daily with the children’s works of arts based on Earth day themes. Also, two young poets who were the first batch of the preschool contributed poems entitled, “Trees” and “The Nature” published on April 18 and 20 editions respectively in Morung Express and the Nagaland Post. Meanwhile, preschoolers were engaged in coloring art works in the classrooms with themes from Earth of plants, fruit trees, flowers, animals, sea creatures, etc and also planted seeds at the school, watered them and are eagerly waiting to see them sprout any day. Children were also involved in activities like watering the flower garden in the school, discussed about the negative impact of hunting animals and cutting down trees, took nature walks discussed about insects, eg. importance of worms for manure, Caterpillars, etc, effects of pollution like noise pollution, air pollution and water pollution, and what each one can do at our own homes and at school and public places.
 
A summary of what children have learnt to do on a daily basis in observance of EARTH DAY 2011 
 
TO DO LIST:
1.    Use waste bins at home, at school and at any public place for any wastage.
2.    Save water by turning the tap off when not in use.
3.    Save water by using only enough water while washing hands.
4.    Save power by reading in the broad daylight.
5.    Collect rain water to use it for watering the gardens.
6.    Recycle used papers for making arts and crafts.
7.    Take care of animals and pets at home.

NOT-TO-DO-LIST:
1.    Not to throw wrappers and fruit peels while traveling in a car.
2.    Not to litter the ground while playing outdoors.
3.    Not to spit anywhere we like.
4.    Not to spill and play with water.
5.    Not to clog drainage and sinks with plastics and other wastes.
