The majority of people possessing good sensehave been protesting the Olympics boxing competition where a biological male fought a woman boxer in a match and battered her with such brutality that she quit forty-six seconds into the game. She quit feeling that her very life was being endangered by the force of the punches the male boxer was delivering. Such a match should never have been allowed in the first place. After the match, unbelievable as it sounds, the female boxer was made to apologise to the male boxer who had punched her more than once in her face. There is more information coming out on this story which is too lengthy to recall here. This was not the only case of a male boxer competing with a female boxer and being declared the winner. Lin Yu Ting of Taiwan, a biological male was declared the winnerin a boxing match against a woman opponent. In 2023, both the Algerian Khelif and Taiwanese Lin were barred from competing in women’s boxing, and declared not eligible. Yet, in 2024, the International Olympic Committee allowed both persons to compete in the women’s boxing competitions. Naturally, they won the matches. How is it possible that players described as not eligible in 2023 were suddenly deemed eligible in 2024? News reports on them use feminine pronouns when referring to them. Both the Algerian and the Taiwanese boxers identify as female in their passports. One would hope that governments and the authorities in charge would have strict guidelines on the loose application of identity. But it looks like people of the world today are being allowed to call themselves whatever they identify as, subsequently leading to tragic consequences such as women’s sports being invaded by male competitors identifying as women. An IOC official was even insisting that the female identities of the two male boxers could be scientifically supported.
It has reached a point where one can no longer bury one’s head in the sand and hope the insanity will go away. If this ideology is a threat to a group of women, it threatens all women; if it threatens all women, it threatens all members of humanity. I do believe that individuals genuinely suffering from gender dysphoria are suffering from an affliction beyond themselves and deserve our pity. But biological males identifying as females in order to take away trophies meant for women should not be supported in any manner. Shame on them. May the sane voices of the likes of Riley Gaines, continue to be heard. Many will remember Riley Gaines as the American champion swimmer who had to compete against a biological male, Lia Thomas. Riley lost. She has since become a strong voice fighting against invasion of women’s sports by men identifying as women. One of the issues connected with inclusion of men in women’s sports is about allowing such players into women’s locker rooms putting sportswomen at great risk. Another voice - Canadian Martin Iles is worth listening to as he expounds on the controversial opening of the Paris Olympics. He also lists the IOC tests from the 1990s and how recent years show tests favoured males identifying as female.
For any right-thinking person, it is helpful to educate ourselves about new laws, for example, the hate speech laws, that have quickly been put into place to legalise these practices. Even if the laws are in existence only in the west for the time being, it does not take long at all for them to travel east. It is one of the demerits of globalisation. This is not the only subject that is causing a problem in society. Euthanasia is another. The Canadian government has been pushing euthanasia on its members in a major way. Canada’s war veterans, and terminally sick citizens as well as patients struggling with depression are being advised to opt for euthanasia. This kind of governance can only be termed anti humanity. It is downright deceptive; it is offered in the guise of compassion for those leading a miserable life to obtain ‘a merciful end.’
I recommend listening to Canadian liturgical artist and Youtuber Jonathan Pageau who describes the blurring of identity that we see nowadays as part of the blurring of the distinctions that are part of the Christian world. He brilliantly unravels the symbolism of today’s evolving art and culture. It is important to understand the Olympic boxing controversy in the light of identity politics and how it is playing out. It will show the connectedness of seemingly unconnected movements that are a real threat to order and stability and tradition.
May people feel brave enough to stand together. Choosing sides sounds conservative and traditional and unyielding. But it does not have to be. When an issue exists where one side is undergoing harm and lasting damage, the time will come to choose sides and not support that which is wrong and evil.
