Villagers, leaders sensitised on COVID-19 vaccine in Kiphire district
Kiphire, June 28 (MExN): Combined team of District Administration and Medical Department, Kiphire carried out sensitisation drive on COVID vaccine under Kiphire district on June 27.
The team covered five villages including Phelungre, Purrur, Anatongre, Singrep and Kiphire village informed a press release issued by Haichikambe Pame, District Media Officer, CMO office Kiphire.
At Phelungre, Deputy Commissioner Kiphire, Rahul Mali, IAS, and District Immunisation Officer, Dr K Pewezo Khalo sensitised the village leaders and the villagers at Phelungre Baptist Church.
The DC Kiphire reminded the gathering about the status of COVID-19 in the district. He informed that, “If any village achieves 100% vaccination, churches and schools will be allowed to resume with full capacity.”
Stating that other advanced countries are taking the same vaccine as in Kiphire, he urged everyone to come forward and receive the vaccine without any scepticism. He refuted the rumours doing rounds about the vaccine and asserted the vaccine was developed only to fight against the disease.
Meanwhile, Dr K Pewezo Khalo, sensitized the leaders about the vaccine by emphasizing on the importance of preventing Coronavirus together, for which taking the COVID vaccine is the only solution.
Warning the gathering about the imminent third wave of COVID-19, he underscored the importance of taking the vaccine, without which Coronavirus will continue to spread. Emphasising the vaccine was introduced after numerous experiments and after substantiating the efficacy of the vaccine, he called on the villagers to outweigh the benefits of vaccine over rumours.
He challenged the village leaders to set good examples to their villagers in order to protect the village from the disease and accept the vaccine without any hesitation.
It is to be noted that similar messages about the COVID vaccine were disseminated in all the villages that the teams covered. It is also to be added that sensitisation drive was carried out at Pungro town led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Pungro, Abhinav Shivam, IAS, and Medical Officer, Pungro CHC, Dr Sikukhiumew Torechu.
Students urged to dispel rumours on social media
Zisaji Presidency College (ZPC), Kiphire and in collaboration with Kiphire District Task Force on COVID-19 and 41 Assam Rifles, Kiphire organised a COVID-19 vaccination drive cum awareness camp on June 28.
A DIPR report stated that DIO, Kiphire, Dr K Pewezo Khalo, addressing the college students said that students must be good ambassadors on COVID-19 vaccination drive in disseminating the importance of vaccine to the community to stay safe from the pandemic. He called upon the students to dispel the rumours on social media.
Dr Khalo also reiterated that, “If any town or village gets 100% vaccinated, the college, school and church will be allowed to open in that particular place.” Further, he added that through our participation and community participation we can remove lockdown. He stressed on the importance of COVID-19 vaccination certificate, stating that it will be helpful for the students who wants to study abroad.
Principal, ZPC said that it is the need of the hour to get vaccinated in the fight against the pandemic. He encouraged the teaching faculties and staff to avail vaccine during such a great opportunity.
A total number of 162 beneficiaries, both 18-44 years and 45 years and above, were vaccinated during the drive.
205 beneficiaries vaccinated in Pungro
A sensitisation programme and vaccination drive was carried out at Pungro town under the initiative of Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pungro, Abhinav Shivam, IAS on June 28. During the drive, a total of 205 beneficiaries availed the vaccine, a DIPR report stated.
The ADC said that under the initiative of administration, medical team and with the cooperation from the ward chairman and public leaders, doubts and apprehension of the people on social media could be addressed. A sensitisation program was held after which a vaccination drive followed. Shivam said that after Pungro town, they will be targeting the villages for vaccination.
The ADC lauded former YTC Chairman, Shelimthong; YTC, Executive Chairman, Makhezo; PPF, Khongsu; 2nd Hd GB Shehoto; Mission Ward Chairman, Shojiba and all ward chairman Pungro town for constant support during the vaccination drive.
