CIH Nagaland conducts training on horti crops

Dimapur, June 24 (MExN): The Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Nagaland has conducted virtual trainers training on ‘production technology and post harvest management of horticulture crops’ on June 23 and 24, with a view to consider potential and to increase production and productivity of temperate and spices crops in North East Region.

A press release from the CIH Nagaland stated that Dr SK Malhotra, Agriculture & Horticulture Commissioner, GoI, in his inaugural speech emphasized to take up scientific production of these crops and to promote post harvest management of these crops for betterment of farmers in NE Region with adoption of development schemes being implemented in the region.

Various aspects on production technology and post harvest management of crops like kiwi, plum, cardamom and other important spice crops were covered during the training session.

The lectures and interactive session on Production technology of Kiwi and Plum crops were covered during first day programme by scientists of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry, Solan. Training on status and scope of spice crops in NE region was delivered by Dr. Homey Cheriyan, Director, Directorate of Arecanut and Spices Development, Calicut. 

Dr Azeze Seyie Scientist, ICAR-Nagaland Centre, emphasized her presentation on pest and disease management in large cardamom. Topic on the post harvest management and value addition of plum and kiwi was covered by Vinika Aomi Post Harvest Technologist, CIH Nagaland.

A total of 100 participants comprising of horticulture officers, scientists, KVK field functionaries from Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh have actively participated and interacted with subject expert. 

Dr NK Patle, Addl. Commissioner & Director in-charge CIH, during his concluding remark, has encouraged all the participants to practically implement the technologies they have learned during the training programme and also invited them to take part in all future events conducted by the institute.
