Kohima | August 2 : Chief Minster Neiphiu Rio called for collective partnership of the government and the citizens to carry forward the society and to develop civic sense to make Kohima a cleaner, healthier and wealthier town. Ten Mahindra Pick-up was launched today at State Academy Hall where the vehicles were distributed to different wards.
Addressing the gathering during the launch of De-Centralized Sanitation Services in Kohima by DPDB and Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), the Chief Minister who graced its launching programme as the chief guest said survival depends on cleanliness of an individual, town and society and therefore cleanliness cannot be compromised.
Rio maintained that the vehicles will be under the supervision of KMC while management will be done by the colonies. “Nagas are allergy to tax, revenue tax”, thereby he said, it will be termed as “Sanitation fee” that this will be collected from every household in the colony and this will be used towards paying the drivers and cleaners.
Terming Kohima District as the first district in the State, Rio said that citizens of Kohima will have to show a good example to other districts by shouldering more responsibilities. He empathized towards keeping the town clean adding that Nagas need to update ideas, be innovative, built modern amenities, create peaceful atmosphere, ensure security and also a friendly attitude so as to “create bigger cities” or else “deficiency will only make the people stay away from you”. The Chief Minister also suggested that the 11 district headquarters should have annual meeting to dwell upon and share innovative ideas, both good and bad experiences so that each one can learn from the other.
Advisor IT & C and Chairman DPDB Kohima, Er. Vikho-o Yhoshu said that the launching is a step forward and giant leap to keep Kohima clean. Chairman NKVIB & Advisor Music Task Force, Dr. Nicky Kire said every individual should own the responsibility in keeping the town clean. Stating the dustbin at Old Minister Hill is always seen flooded he urged the citizens and KMC to maintained hygienic environment as that way led to Chief Minister’s residence and the look of the outsiders. He appealed the KMC to assign the vehicles to different colonies and utilise them properly for the benefit of the people of Kohima town.
The chief guest along with other dignitaries handed out the keys and documents of 10 Mahindra pick up vehicles to the Chairman/representatives of the Wards. Convenor of Advisory Board KMC Er. Y. Chuba Ao delivered the welcome address while Pastor BMC Rev. Moa Longchari pronounced invocation. The programme was chaired by Administrator KMC Alun Hangsing who also proposed the vote of thanks.
