Chümoukedima, July 16 (MExN): The Meteorological Centre Kohima, under the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and Ministry of Earth Sciences, observed Swachhta Pakhwada 2026 from July 1 to 15, concluding the cleanliness and awareness drive with a mass pledge and rally involving students and staff at Government Higher Secondary School, Diphupar, Chümoukedima.

A press release received here stated that the fortnight-long initiative, aimed at fostering a culture of cleanliness and environmental responsibility, culminated with a cash prize and certificate distribution ceremony at the school on Wednesday.

Dignitaries including Nalnish Kumar Chaudhary, Scientist 'D' & Head of the Meteorological Centre Kohima, and the school’s Principal addressed the gathering, highlighting the link between meteorology, environmental health, and community hygiene.

Prior to the valedictory event, the campaign kicked off with a Swachhta Pledge, where officials committed to maintaining hygiene, followed by a Shramdan (voluntary labour) drive that led to a thorough cleanup and greening of the office premises.

As part of outreach to the younger generation, the Centre organised a drawing competition at the school, where students depicted their visions of a cleaner, greener India through artwork. Winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates during the closing ceremony.

Following the distribution, a mass rally was flagged off, with students, faculty, and IMD staff marching through the locality holding banners and chanting slogans to sensitise the public on waste management and hygiene practices.
