Condemnation over gruesome killing of girl by father

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 9 (MExN): The Jotsoma Village Council and Jotsoma Youth Organisation has expressed its sorrow and vehemently condemned the gruesome killing of Kezhakie-ü Nagi, 2 ½ years old by her own father Mr. Selhou Nagi. The incident came to light only on the 8th September 2011 evening when her aunt went to visit their place. According to a report received here, the accused, a divorcee, had stumbled to the home of his sister asking for cash. Seeing him in a doubtful condition, the elder sister decided to visit his home where the shocking news was unveiled. The child reportedly bore marks on the back of her head, where she must have been hit with a hard object.
The volunteers from Jotsoma Village apprehended the culprit on the 9th September 2011 and handed it over to the police. The press note was issued by Visezo Nagi, Chairman of Jotsoma Village Council and Nibulie Nakhro President of Jotsoma Youth Organization. According to the press note, on interrogation the accused father admitted that on 5th September 2011 he had killed his daughter with his own Naga dao (machete) and fled away from home. Further he stated that he got annoyed thinking of his family and his future life which has been spoiled due to bad habit of taking drugs and decided to kill his daughter and also to kill himself. But after killing her he got frightened and could not kill himself and fled from the village.
The press note has appealed to all sections of the society to condemn such barbaric act of crime, pointing out that this was “beyond the limit of our Naga culture and human sense”. The culprit should be awarded with the highest degree and exemplary punishment and made known to the public, the press note stated. Moreover, it has warned that no one should bail out such a person at any cost. The Jotsoma Village Council and Jotsoma Youth Organisation conveyed its condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that the God Almighty grant them solace at the time of grief and also prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
