Cong demands immediate appointment of Lokayukta

Dimapur, September 15 (MExN): Questioning the silence of the members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has demanded that the state government appoint a Lokayukta without any delay.

“If they are free from corruption, they should have no fear in appointing Lokayukta. The bill for keeping the post vacant is an admission to cover up corruption,” NPCC President K Therie said in a statement on Wednesday.

Asserting that there is no good reason to justify the delay in appointing Lokayukta, Therie said that the recent CAG report had revealed unverifiable projects, fraudulent drawls, misuse and diversion of funds, half constructed stadiums, High Court buildings, bridges and roads “while payments are fully drawn.” Similarly, the people are left to fend for themselves with “potholed roads, erratic power supply, private water supply, private hospitals, private schools, private agriculture,” he said, while questioning the need to keep the Lokayukta post vacant for another year.

Reiterating that the only reason for the delay would be to “cover up corruption for some time,” Therie added that the 60 members of the legislative assembly were “cooperating with corruption” by remaining silent.
