Cong finds Longleng’s admn in bad shape

Dimapur, August 1(MExN): The Education authorities in Longleng district are ‘more interested in inspection,’ there are holes in the distribution system of the Food & Civil Supplies and the district’s main hospital is no better than a public health centre in other districts; some fourth grade employees drink liquor and make opium in office.
These are some of the ‘findings’ Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) and District Congress Committee (DDC) officials ran into during a tour of the villages and district headquarter of Longleng during July 10-20.
The District Congress Committee of Longleng issued to the media some of the ‘findings’ from the tour. According to the DCC’s press release, the Education department officials are “more interested in going for inspection in civil works”.
In the process the welfare of the teachers and students are being neglected, the DCC stated. “The DCC feels that the department would give priority to schooling and teaching. The Civil Works inspection should be left with the engineering wing as they have technical know-how,” the DCC’s press release, appended by the DCC’s secretary Jongshi Phom.
On the Food & Civil Supply department in the district, the Congress lamented that the BPL and AAY rice is given only 5-6 times a year “that also in a very less quantity.”  The DCC is ‘sorry’ to learn that district officers and public are unaware about APL rice. “Is the APL rice not loaded from Dimapur godowns? Kerosene allotment for Longleng district is 36, 000 KL per month but unfortunately only about 3000-5000 KL reached the district,” the DCC stated. The rest are sold to an Agency in Changtongya by ‘taking commission,’ the unit said. “Should the district use the K-oil or the commission? The DCC have proof from the general public regarding non-receipt of K-Oil,” the press release said.
On the district’ civil hospital, the Congress said the health institution is “in a shabby state” and “cant even be compared with PHCs in Kohima and Mokokchung.” In spite of having an X-ray machine and technician, there is no proper and sufficient power supply, the Congress said. “It is rotting” the DCC explained. Further there are no duty rooms for medical officers while the Medical Superintendent and the CMO are hardly in the station, the unit said. “The road leading to the hospital is pathetic and even the fencing had collapsed long back. It is learned that even the student bodies had taken the matters of the hospital with the concerned authority but without any positive response or action so far,” the unit said.
On departmental officers posted in Longleng, the DCC said many of them attend only the District Planning & Development Board meeting and leave “as soon as the meeting is over only to come for the next DPDB meeting.”
In some office, fourth grade employees in the drink liquor and “making opium,” the unit said. In fact this is an eyewitness account, the DCC stated, and has asked the district administration and department to look into this particular matter.
The ‘pathetic’ condition of the roads in Longleng was also mentioned by the DCC which said “is like plying in a dry river bed.”  The apex tribal and students’ organizations are requested to look into the matter. “These are some of the reports/observations made during the tour. We feel that as responsible government servants, the officers should devote their time for the welfare of the general public and should also not ruined the reputation of sincere officers in the process,” the DCC stated. “The officers should give priority to the district that they are posted and the public should enjoy the facilities as enjoyed by other districts.”
