CoRRP issues instructions for non-participation in Nagaland Govt functions

Dimapur, August 12 (MExN): The Five Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP) today issued general instructions for “indefinite” non-participation in all State Government functions, including the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on August 15, until its demands on reservation policy are addressed.

The directive follows a unanimous resolution adopted during a joint meeting of the committee on August 9, 2025, comprising apex bodies of the Angami, Ao, Lotha, Rengma, and Sumi tribes. The CoRRP had earlier announced its rejection of the Nagaland Government’s decision to include members of civil society organisations (CSOs) in the newly constituted Reservation Review Commission.

In its statement, the committee said the boycott would continue until the State Government provides a “satisfactory response” to three key demands: revisiting the composition of the Reservation Review Commission and removing members from CSOs; ensuring the Commission’s tenure does not extend beyond six months; and suspending the Backward Tribe Reservation Policy if the Government intends to link the Commission’s findings with the completion of the census.

Accordingly, the committee directed its frontal organisations and sub-units across eight districts—Kohima, Mokokchung, Wokha, Tseminyu, Zunheboto, Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland—to abstain from all meetings and functions convened by the State Government.

For Independence Day, the instructions include voluntary public abstention from official programmes, no participation by cultural troupes, and a directive to student bodies to ensure that schools and colleges do not compel students to join celebrations outside their campuses. The committee also urged that the non-participation remain peaceful and free of confrontations.

The Five Tribes Committee was formed earlier this year to coordinate a common position on reviewing Nagaland’s reservation policy, which it argues needs reform to ensure fairness and transparency.
Ao Senden announces

Meanwhile, in response to the CoRRP resolution, the Ao Senden on Tuesday announced its non-participation in all State Government functions.

“As per the unanimous decision and general instructions, the Ao Senden and all Civil Societies under our banner will not participate in any Government functions until the issue in contention is fulfilled by the Government,” it stated in a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung.
