COVID-19 cases in Nagaland continued its downhill trend on Sunday as 58 single-day recoveries were reported against 23 new infections.
As per the daily health bulletin issued by the state Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), Kohima reported 12 new cases, Dimapur reported 10 and Mokokchung one new case. The three districts along with Peren and Tuensang are placed under the ‘Situational Level 2’ category.
Nagaland has a 5-tier COVID situational alert mechanism in place, graded according to contagion. It starts from Level 0 (Green) with Level 5 (Red) rated as graded as highest level of alert.
Sunday’s 23 cases were out of 412 samples tested on February 13, denoting a sample positivity rate of 5.54 percent, the bulletin informed. With this, the total COVID-19 caseload in the State increased to 35,196, out of which 465 were active cases.
At least 20 of the new cases were detected through self tests and random testing while two were detected among returnees or travellers and one through traced contacts.
Meanwhile, a total of 58 patients also recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours with Dimapur leading the tally of single-day recoveries with 39, followed by 14 in Kohima, four in Peren and one in Mokokchung.
Since February 2, recoveries outnumbered fresh cases in the State and total recoveries from the virus stood at 32,508 on Sunday.
However, the COVID-19 death toll saw an increase on Sunday with two more patients in Dimapur succumbing to the virus.
Accordingly, the total COVID-19 deaths in Nagaland as of 6:00 pm on February 13 stood at 748.
The health bulletin also informed that over the course of the pandemic, four more patients with COVID -19 positivity also died, but they were designated as “Non Covid Deaths.”
The IDSP bulletin informed that out of 465 active cases, one patient was in the intensive care unit on ventilator; three were in ICU without ventilator; and 8 on moderate oxygen.
A total of 123 patients had mild symptoms while 330 were asymptomatic.
District wise, Dimapur has the highest number of active cases with 275 followed by Kohima with 140 and Mokokchung with 14. While the active case count in the rest of the districts were below 10, Kiphire was the only district without any active cases.
It must be noted here that data reporting for the new districts are covered under former districts as there are no separate surveillance units yet for the new districts.
