‘Curb the burden of illegal taxation’

KOHIMA, JUNE 6 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front has stated that it “subscribes towards the need to curb the burden of illegal taxations at every level cohesively and treat the subject with paramount importance.” This was resolved at the NPF central office bearers meeting held on June 5 at the NPF Central Hq in Kohima. A press note informed that the resolution urged every concerned organization, political party and individuals to “come together in containing the social menace without any prejudice, in the interest of the people.” It added that the resolution was taken with the understanding that the “people’s aspiration cannot be put to jeopardy by antagonising public sentiments.” It also considered that the “political stand of the Nagas cannot be put to risk by prolonging and delaying tactics.”

The meeting lauded the Cabinet decision to construct the foothill roads and further urged the government to expedite the process, which is long overdue. The Secretary General, K.G. Kenye, while calling the second session to order informed that “Nagaland Government is not sleeping on the issue.” He assured the the government is seriously committed to bring about construction of the proposed road without delay.

President of the NPF, Dr Shürhozelie Liezetsu appreciated the “hard work which had garnered the people’s mandate.” He reminded the members of the ‘Pledge’ made by every member. He asserted, “We are, in the first place, to serve the party before individual interests, be more serious than before, we have to be transparent and go about how to make the party stronger.” Considering the upcoming Lok Sabha/Parliamentary elections, Dr Shürhozelie advised not to recommend candidates from range, area or district back grounds; but to leave the matter strictly to the Working Committee to pick the right candidate. Commenting on the upcoming elections, he regretted the fact that “some mainland MPs do not even know Nagaland.” The House congratulated the Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio and President, Shürhozelie Liezetsu under whose leaderships the party returned to power for the third consecutive time.
