Dimapur, September 9 (MExN): The Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) has strongly condemned an incident reported from Naga United Village on September 7, where armed miscreants allegedly "harassed, intimidated, and robbed a woman at her residence while she was with her infant and three-year-old child in the absence of her husband."
Such behaviour is not only a direct threat to the very social fabric of Naga society but also an attack on the dignity, freedom, and safety of all women in the society, the DAYO asserted in a statement.
Harassment and intimidation in any form is a direct violation of human rights and must be denounced vehemently by every right-thinking citizen, it added.
The organisation further expressed concern over what it described as an increasing number of incidents of criminal intimidation and harassment in Dimapur, allegedly carried out by extortionists "claiming to be from one or the other factions brandishing firearms in public areas and private residences."
It also pointed out that vandalizing CCTV equipment and seizing DVRs amounts to destruction of evidence.
To this end, DAYO questioned the lax implementation of ceasefire ground rules and called for stricter enforcement to address "glaring loopholes." It extended solidarity with the victim and her family and urged law enforcement agencies to take stringent action against those responsible.
