DC Dimapur commits to ‘comprehensive investigation’ into fake certificate, land rights issues: DNSU

Dimapur, July 1 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) today claimed that the Deputy Commissioner has assured a “comprehensive investigation” into alleged fraudulent activities concerning indigenous inhabitant certificates and land rights in Dimapur.

In a statement, the union informed that the assurance followed the submission of a representation to the DC Dimapur on June 26, taking a firm stand against the alleged fraudulent activities.

As per the statement, the representation specifically “calls for a thorough investigation into a fraudulent indigenous inhabitant certificate allegedly issued to Nirmal Jain,” while emphasising that the decisive action was taken after thorough deliberation with all its Tribal Units.

Meanwhile, the DNSU also reiterated its commitment to the two issues and asserted that it would “leave no stone unturned to bring the truth to light.”

It also underscored that the issue is not about “Nagas and non-Nagas,” but about “the citizens of Nagaland and criminals,” and conveyed its firm resolve to protect the rights of the Nagas.

The union stated it will go to any extent to stop such criminals from exploiting the citizens.

It further asserted that it respects and welcomes any genuine non-Nagas to settle and do business within the confines of the law but cannot allow “anyone to exploit our citizens or allow such criminals to misuse and play with the system to exploit us.”

“The DNSU team has taken an oath in the presence of the people and God as a witness to serve the people, and we shall uphold what we have sworn till our last breath,” it maintained.

The union also highlighted that it maintains transparency on issues and welcomes anyone for any fact-finding.

“However, if any individuals, CSOs, or any low or high-ranking officials are found manipulating and spreading rumours to subjugate this genuine concern, DNSU will not only file a defamation case against them but will also take our own course of action by exposing them to the public,” it added.

Further, the DNSU issued a “stern warning” against any harassment, intimidation, or targeting of its executives or members. Such actions will be met with “the full force of public exposure,” it added, emphasising that the executives are currently under immense pressure following the public exposure of the alleged illegal activities.

To this end, the DNSU also called for public solidarity from all conscious citizens, civil society organisations (CSOs), and concerned individuals, stressing the importance of collective action to safeguard Naga identity and land rights.

It further appealed to the citizens of Nagaland to be “cautious, prepared, and to come together when needed.”

The DNSU also stated that it eagerly awaits “prompt and decisive action” from the authorities and unwavering support from the public to uphold justice and protect the rights of indigenous people in Dimapur.
