DCCI and CCCTA on price rate, vehicle checking and taxation

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 2 (MExN): The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and Chümoukedima Chamber of Commerce and Trade Association (CCCTA) held its first joint coordination meeting at Niathu Resort, Chümoukedima, on December 1, and deliberated on some pressing issues.

First, the house resolved that with regard of fixation of price rate, the administrators of the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and Chümoukedima Town Council should also consult the DCCI and CCCTA, respectively, a press statement received from DCCI and CCCTA president informed.

On this, the two commerce bodies reminded about a meeting held on September 13, 2021, under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister and attended by Advisor of Urban Development, Chief Secretary, DGP, Finance Commissioner and others, with the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CNCCI).

Subsequently, the Principal Secretary (Home) in a letter to CNCCI president dated September 14, 2021, informed that “The Administrators of all the Urban Local Bodies will take steps for including the representatives of the business communities of their cities/towns in their advisory committees for taking decisions in respect to various business related activities.”

Meanwhile, the DCCI and CCCTA took strong exception to the random checking of commercial vehicles by traffic police personnel even after these vehicles have crossed the inter-state check gates.

It alleged that right after commercial vehicles cross the New Field check gate, traffic personnel start checking these vehicles at Hotel Tragopan junction. “What is the need to check a vehicle twice within a distance of less than 500 metres?, it questioned also adding that the commercial vehicles go through the same harassment at Purana Bazaar and a couple of check points till Chümoukedima town. In this connection, the two commerce bodies have urged the concerned authority to intervene and stop such harassment immediately.

It also lamented that with the ensuing festive season, the business community is once again facing increased harassment and threats from the various Naga Political Groups in the form of illegal taxation.

It alleged that the NPGs have started issuing summon letters to agencies and business establishments to come to their monitoring cells/designated offices. They are also conducting random raids and checking of maximum retail price (MRP) and expired goods etc. Even some brands that they are not aware of, they claim the goods as duplicate and seize them, it further alleged.

If such harassment continues and the concerned authority fails to take action, then the business community might be forced to close down their shutters without any further notice, it cautioned.

Meanwhile, with the oncoming festive season, the DCCI has requested the business community to open their shops on Sundays, to facilitate shoppers from within the state as well as neighbouring states.
