Dimapur, September 1 (MExN): Several days after authorities raided a Dimapur market for selling fake cosmetic products, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) today assured willingness to assist the authorities in “routing unscrupulous individuals in the guise of traders and businessmen who bring disrepute to the business community while pursuing their own vested interests and individual profits at the expense of the sufferings of the consumers.”
“The DCCI and the various market associations / welfare committees are ever ready to assist the DMC in routing unscrupulous individuals in the guise of traders and businessmen who bring disrepute to the business community while pursuing their own vested interests and individual profits at the expense of the sufferings of the consumers,” the organization assured the authorities. The DCCI issued a statement today.
The traders organization said consumers “should be aware” while purchasing “various consumables such as edible items and medicines and other items like cosmetics” since ‘duplication of the same’ may pose to be a direct threat to the health and wellness of the unsuspecting consumers. DCCI president Hokivi Chishi appended the note.
However, the DCCI stated, the existence of other items such as motor parts, mobile phones and accessories of lower quality etc cannot be denied. They are sold in various markets and outlets, although the customers willfully and knowingly purchase the same according to their budget and choice, the DCCI stated.
The DMC also appreciated “the honest intentions” of advisor to Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) in-charge of Quality Control in checking the sale of spurious and duplicate items, in this case, cosmetics, in Dimapur.
The DCCI further requested that when raids or searches are conducted, the appointed staff of the DMC should be present along with the DMC officials and supervise the searches conducted by police and law enforcing agencies.
“If not, anybody may take undue advantage of the situation and create unnecessary and avoidable circumstances like in the case of the incident at Hazi Park. The DCCI also appeals to the DMC that henceforth, duty/assignment order be issued during such searches which should be carried and produced by the officials of the DMC at the time of checking,” the organization stated.
“This is not to antagonize the law enforcing agencies, but to maintain transparency in order to prevent any unscrupulous elements from taking advantage out of the given situation. The DMC may also make a list of items seized from various shops so that the sellers can own responsibility respectively.”
