Delimitation has nothing to do with Naga issue, says JAC of Tribal Hohos

Dimapur, June 22 (MExN): The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Tribal Hohos on Delimitation has said that the delimitation exercise should be implemented in Nagaland as it “has nothing to do with Naga issue as we all know that the former is a mere constitutional obligation and the latter is a dignified political issue.”

A press release from the Publicity Cell of the JAC on Monday stated that the nationwide delimitation exercise has nothing to do with losing or gaining seats but simply a constitutional obligation to bring about proportionate representation of the people to the State Assembly for equal developmental opportunities. “Delimitation also has nothing to do with Naga issue as we all know that the former is a mere constitutional obligation and the latter is a dignified political issue,” it stated.

The release stated that the JAC reposed “full faith and confidence in the caliber and astuteness” of the present Associate Delimitation Commission Member of Nagaland, Sentiyanger Imchen, that “he will deliver justice to the people of Nagaland by implementing the Act of Parliament without fear or favor.”

“JAC resolved that the delimitation exercise be implemented in Nagaland in letter and spirit as per the provisions of the Delimitation Act 2002(amended in 2003) to uphold the sanctity of the constitutional obligation,” the release stated.

The JAC meanwhile took exception to former Nagaland Commissioner and Member Delimitation Commission, Nagaland, TN Mannen’s ‘contention’ that appeared in various news dailies and said that “it is understood that delimitations are done based only on Census and not tribe-wise and besides the Delimitation is outside the purview of the Article 371 (A).”

It was meanwhile informed that the resolutions were affirmed during a meeting between the JAC representatives of Peren, Longleng, Kiphire, Wokha and the unit representatives from Chakhroma Public Organization (CPO) and Rengma Hoho in Kohima on June 20.

The meeting revamped the earlier JAC which will now be head by CR Lotha as Convener, Razouvotuo, CPO Advisor as Co-Convener, Jonas Yanthan as Secretary, Joshua Newmai as Treasurer along with one member each from its units as Joint Secretaries, it said.
