DIMAPUR, MARCH 5 (MExN): The Maralui Karalimei Swijoikang (MKS), Senapati has stated that the impasse over the developmental works along the Khongnem stretch of NH-2 due to concern between the executing agency and the Maralui Karalimei Swijoikang was “settled amicably.”

A press note stated that the MKS had paused the ongoing works along the stretch due to its “haphazard manner of work execution and lack of quality.” It also stated that during MKS’s frequent inspections, the team had found out that works were carried out in the name of a professional contractor but that the actual works were being executed and overlooked by laborers’ who did not have proper knowledge on the specifications, content and composition for the repairing works.

This same stretch of Khongnem NH-2, was stalled last year by the the Maram Students’ Union due to negligence and lack of quality.

The MKS stated that the wet mix micabem, which is a prerequisite method of mixing materials prior to the black-topping process, was not employed. It said that “black-topping was carried out hastily without removing/peeling off remnants of ageing (old) black-topped portions, and stone chips were seen wearing out within a few days from the black-topped portions.”

In view of the aforementioned concerns, the MSK informed the executing committee that “cosmetics repairing” of the concerned road would not be acceptable. The press note stated that upon assurances to address the grievances, the executing agency would resume the works as per specifications and use standard materials.

The union further stated that security of the laborers and the equipment would be their “utmost concern.”
