DHS Peren launches Pneumonia campaign

Peren, November 13 (MExN): District Health Society, Peren launched Social Awareness and Action to Neutralise Pneumonia Successfully (SAANS) and observed World Pneumonia Day at District Hospital, Peren on November 13. 

SAANS is a campaign that has been launched to ensure early detection and greater awareness of pneumonia in children under the age of five, stated a press release. 

Dr Rukuwe Thelie, Paediatrician, DH, Peren gave a short PowerPoint presentation on SAANS. He gave a basic overview and goals of SAANS. He said the aim of the campaign is to ensure greater awareness and early detection of pneumonia in children under five of age. Pneumonia is a lung infection caused by bacterial, viral or fungal infection. He emphasized on accelerating action against Childhood Pneumonia by generating awareness on protection, prevention and treatment aspects of Childhood Pneumonia and to enhance early identification and care seeking behaviours among parents and caregivers. 

Special Guest Keyirangding Hegui, ADC, Peren in his short speech thanked the health workers for their dedication and hard work in implementing various health activities across the district. He shared that all logistics needs will be provided and ready to help whenever required. He encouraged the participants to create more awareness about the signs and symptoms, Do's and Don't and join hands together to make the campaign successful. 

The programme was also launched in Tening CHC and Ahthibung PHC.

The programme was attended by officials from Administration, Social Welfare department, Health Workers, and ASHAs. Zochilu Venuh, BPM Peren sadar chaired the programme and gave the welcome address. Dr Supongmenla Walling, DPO (RCH&UIP) gave the welcome and keynote address. Dr Meningsiliu Rentta, Obs & Gynea, DH, Peren gave vote of thanks.
