The Dilong Youth Association (DYA) commemorated its 25th Silver Jubilee at the Dilong Ward Community Hall, in Mokokchung on August 2. Held under the theme “Tayimjem Libaliyim”, loosely translated as “Holistic Lifestyle,” the jubilee celebration brought together past and present members of the association, well-wishers, and community leaders for a day of reflection, celebration, and rededication.
Tsüngtaluba Imchen, the first president of the DYA, in his address reminisce about the association's formative days, recounting the association’s humble beginnings. He recalled how early members would fetch water, organize activities, and contribute collectively to raise funds—efforts that laid the foundation for what the association has become today. Highlighting the founding vision of “To serve and strive,” Imchen underscored that the DYA was established as a self-reliant, non-profit and apolitical youth body committed to fostering leadership and community service. He encouraged today’s youth to evolve with the times while staying true to the core values that define the association.

Imkongchuba A Pongen, Chairperson of Mokokchung Municipal Council and a former DYA member, termed the jubilee as a timely moment for retrospection. He called upon the members to take stock of the association’s strengths and contributions over the past 25 years, while also acknowledging its shortcomings and embracing a spirit of reconciliation. Pongen urged the DYA to set its sights on the future with a vision for the Golden Jubilee, emphasizing growth, unity, and sustained relevance in the community.
Delivering the jubilee theme address, Dr Sashila Aier stressed the critical role of youth as torchbearers and cultural ambassadors. Drawing attention to the erosion of traditional values in contemporary society, she spoke about reviving practices such as family gatherings and neighborly openness. Dr. Aier emphasized the importance of language, cultural knowledge, and oral histories, urging young people to become stewards of their heritage and to actively learn about the origins and stories of their colony.
On community development, she articulated a vision of youth-driven progress. Given Dilong’s central location and prominence, Dr. Aier encouraged the DYA to lead efforts in infrastructure enhancement and beautification. She spoke of the importance of ownership—of treating public spaces and community property with the same care and pride as one’s own home. Upholding moral values and resilience, she said, would be key to both personal growth and collective advancement.
“What kind of lifestyle will you be remembered for? What legacy will the Dilong Youth Association leave behind?” she asked.
The event also witnessed the unveiling of the Jubilee Souvenir, alongside greetings and messages from the Dilong Ward Council, Dilong Watsü Unit, and Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem.
Lanuaküm Imsong, the current and 10th president of DYA, delivered the “President’s Voice,” highlighting the association’s journey and vision for the future. The commemorative programme also featured special presentations including a song by Lipokmeren and a thanksgiving choral by the Jubilee Choir.
