‘Dimapur BSL-2 lab in final stage of completion’

Kohima, June 13 (MExN): Works at the BSL-2 lab in Dimapur are in ‘the final stage of completion,’ and Dimapur district will be receiving two more TrueNat machines (Quattro model) in the next few days.


This was informed during the daily briefing on COVID-19 by State Spokespersons Neiba Kronu and Mmhonlumo Kikon on June 13. 


“We would like to inform that the infrastructure installation at the BSL-2 lab Dimapur is in the final stage of completion. Thereafter the verification and registration process with ICMR will start and the lab is expected to become functional soon,” it said.


On the testing capacity in the district, the spokespersons said that the District Hospital, Dimapur already has a TrueNat machine which can test 40 tests per day and two more TrueNat Machines (Quattro model) are being provided to Dimapur district in the next few days to further increase its capacity to test.


The spokespersons also informed that efforts are being made to augment the COVID-19 capacity in Dimapur by coming up with COVID Care Centre (CCC) for management of asymptomatic positive cases and to decongest the COVID-19 Hospitals. One CCC managed by CIHSR at State Institute of Health and Family Welfare, Chümoukedima, will be functional in the next 2 days and a 50 bedded COVID-19 Hospital has also been operationalised by the Assam Rifles at ARTC, Shokhuvi.


It was also informed that 5 Medical Officers are being deployed out of the 27 doctors that were recruited recently to supplement the medical workforce of Dimapur. Further recruitment is in progress, and more manpower will be deputed as and when recruitment to newly created posts of doctors and nurses takes place, it said. 


With regard to returnees who have exceeded their required period of stay in the Institutional Quarantine Centres in Dimapur, top priority is being accorded for testing and processing for their release, the spokespersons said, while appealing to the citizens and civil society organizations of the State to extend their fullest cooperation to overcome the challenges posed by COVID-19.
