DIMAPUR, AUGUST 30 (MExN): The Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) of Dimapur led by the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) in a representation to the Nagaland Governor La Ganesan stated that the “entire CSO's of Dimapur aspire to lift NLTP Act, 1989” from the district with “proper mechanism.”
This is considering the fact that the existing the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act (NLTP), 1989 is a total failure in the district, it highlighted.
The CSOs further noted that there has been continued reminder to both public and the law department for complete closure of liquor outlets but the NLTP ACT- 1989 has become a “mockery” with nearly 1000 liquor outlets in Dimapur area itself.
In justifying the demand, the CSOs further cited that drug abusers have been multiplied, especially among the school and college going students, and it is pertinent to address it through the Act.
“Kindly put up for urgent discussion in the next upcoming Nagaland Legislative Assembly,” stated the representation listing out various “Call for Action” to the State Government, submitted by the NCD with representatives from 20 Naga Tribes and its four affiliated independent CSOs- Naga Women Hoho Dimapur, Dimapur Naga Students' Union, Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation and Dimapur Goan Bura's- Sadar.
The signatories also included other Dimapur-based CSOs –Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Dimapur District GB Federation and Dimapur Eastern Naga Students Union.
Meanwhile the other ‘Call for Action” included the demand for the construction of By-Pass Road at National Highway-29 from Amar Mill point near the inter-state check gate to Burma camp, Dhansiri Bridge, as elucidated in a memo to State Chief Minister on July 11.
Further, the CSOs highlighted that there is an urgent need for construction of a new flyover bridge from Plaza Point joining at the present railway over-bridge.
This would ease the present traffic menace especially for school going students and those persons attending government offices and private works in the city, they maintained.
Besides, the construction of the Dimapur Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex construction, under construction since 2005, has become a total failure, the CSOs noted.
According to the terms and conditions, the construction work was to be completed by 2009, but till date there is no sign of its completion, they maintained.
Hence, the CSOs urged the Governor for the completion of construction of at the earliest for the sake of young sports lovers who wish to take sports as their profession.
The CSOs also noted that while the construction of Dimapur Civil Hospital is on its verge of completion, there is no progress or further development. Accordingly, they requested the Governor’s intervention for completion of works in a time bound frame.
