Disaster management cell set up

Dimapur April 27 (DIPR): The Administrative Training Institute has set in place various programmes for the current year 2006-2007 on knowledge and skill up-gradation of state government employees while a separate disaster management cell has been set up. This was informed in the monthly HoD meeting held in Kohima on April 26.

Highlighting the activities of the ATI, the Additional Director, P Solo impressed upon the officers that the department has made elaborate programmes to organize fifty-seven training programme during the current year (2006-07) on knowledge and skill up-gradation of State Government employees. He said the training is also part of sensitizing Government officials to handle the need of the people better besides updating and enhancing their skills. During the presentation the Additional Director informed the participants that a separate Disaster Management Cell has been set up at ATI to look into the training programmes on disaster management and to create awareness on disasters  both man-made and natural calamities.

The State Institute of Rural Development, SIRD until now not known by many, also made a sublime presentation of its activities and the major thrusts of the department .

Delivering the presentation, its Director, Asenla Jamir said that the main thrust of the Department is to organize various training for the youth particularly, educated unemployed youths to help them to get gainful self employment, undertake research work and bring better co-ordination among various Departments for the uplift of the people. She also said that the SIRD Department organizes various training programmes throughout the year for unemployed youths to enable them to take up vocations such as farming and apiculture. The Director said that in spite of limited manpower and resources, the Department is making an all-out effort to help bring a positive change in the today’s fast-changing world.

During discussion after presentations, Chief Secretary Lalhuma IAS said that there is a need to identify skill gaps in all administrative offices and directorates so that those staff and employees who require updating of skill can be sent for training.

Responding to the presentation made by the Department of Economics and Statistics, several senior officers urged upon the department to make greater efforts to project the figures and statistics of the State accurately.
