Dimapur, July 26 (MExN): MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, who is also Leader of the NPF Legislature Party today stated that several unexpected and alarming incidents in Nagaland over the past few months have raised serious concerns. In a press release, Azo said highlighted these developments and urged the government to take immediate action.
One major incident was the impeachment of Kitovi Zhimomi as the Ato Kilonser of the GPRN/NSCN. Azo expressed concern over this development, emphasizing Zhimomi's significant contribution as the Convener of the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs).
The MLA also mentioned the NSCN (IM) terminating Lieut. Gen. (Retd.) Hs. Ramsan, VC, Executive Member of the Steering Committee, and Lieut. Gen. Absalom Raman, MM, MC, Dy. Longvibu from the party and national service. Azo described this as a matter of grave concern, further complicating the already fragile situation in Nagaland.
"The ceasefire agreements between the Government of India and various Naga Political Groups have led to the proliferation of factions and an increase in rampant extortion, multiple taxation, intimidation, and summons of business establishments," Nienu stated. He highlighted several recent violent incidents, including the assassination of Abdul Kayum Talukdar, GB of New Market, on June 7. Talukdar was shot near an ATM booth in Signal Bosti, Shaam Bazaar area, Dimapur, and later succumbed to his injuries.
In another incident, two employees of a company engaged in road work in Peren District were abducted from their base camp at Tamphung village on June 28. On July 18, an employee of Ankit Transport was shot at by armed miscreants in NST Colony, Dimapur. Azo criticized the government and law enforcement agencies for failing to curb illegal taxation and pointed out that some associations were extorting money from the business community under the guise of running their offices.
The MLA also made mention of the recent press statement of NSCN (IM) with regard to the Arambai Tengol, a Meitei organization, on July 22. He further noted that on July 24, a bomb explosion near the Indo-Myanmar border claimed the life of Major Huseya Assumi, a senior NSCN (-M) functionary, and injured two others.
Azo emphasized that these disturbing trends could lead to total social unrest and uncertainty, challenging the rule of law. "Situations may worsen and only intensify if left unchecked. It is important that we pay attention to the signs that portend the rise of violence and take appropriate steps," he said.
