Dimapur, September 2 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has expressed concern over reports of students being asked to sell badges or tokens outside their schools in connection with Teachers’ Day celebrations.
In a press release, the Union stated that while it understands the nominal collection to honour the teaching community, the practice of making students sell tokens to recover the collected amount “places an unnecessary burden on students and compromises their comfort and dignity,” especially in the current hot weather.
DNSU emphasised that it fully supports meaningful celebrations to appreciate teachers but stressed that “students should not be put in situations where their well-being is at risk.” Teachers’ Day, it underlined, should remain a celebration of respect and gratitude, not a source of stress or obligation.
The Union appealed to school administrations to refrain from assigning token-selling duties to students and instead “explore safer, more inclusive ways to celebrate the occasion.” It also urged education authorities to review the collection process to ensure that it does not unintentionally lead to hardships for students or schools.
Further, DNSU encouraged parents and the public to report instances where students are made to sell tokens so that such concerns can be addressed “promptly and constructively.”
Reaffirming its commitment to student welfare and dignity, DNSU expressed hope that this Teachers’ Day would be celebrated “in the true spirit of appreciation and unity.”
