DIMAPUR, APRIL 9 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has strongly condemned the recent arbitrary appointments of Assistant Professors in the Higher Education Department of Nagaland, which bypassed the prescribed recruitment process through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC).
In a press statement, it described these actions as a flagrant violation of established procedures that undermine meritocracy, transparency, and fairness in public service recruitment.
The DNSU expressed grave concern over the disregard for due process, which it argued jeopardizes the future of education in the state. "Such arbitrary appointments not only deny deserving individuals their rightful opportunities but also undermine the quality of education provided in our institutions," the DNSU emphasized. The Union also pointed out that the rights of qualified and aspiring Naga youth who have diligently prepared for the NPSC examinations have been trampled upon.
“The DNSU is deeply concerned about the erosion of institutional integrity and the blatant disregard for the established recruitment processes," it stated. "The future of our state’s higher education is being severely compromised by these unethical practices."
In light of the ongoing situation, the DNSU has called for the immediate annulment of all appointments made without following the NPSC recruitment procedure.
It demanded that the Higher Education Department must strictly follow the established recruitment processes through NPSC for all future appointments.
The DNSU also stressed the need for transparency and accountability in all recruitment processes to restore the public’s trust in the system.
It demanded a thorough investigation into the matter must be conducted, and appropriate action should be taken against those responsible for these arbitrary appointments.
It also urged the state government to uphold the rights of Naga youth to fair and equitable opportunities in public service.
The DNSU further expressed shock at the state of Naga society, noting that educated individuals have willingly participated in such practices, depriving deserving students of their chance to compete in the NPSC exams.
It cited an RTI reply which revealed that a staggering 144 posts were arbitrarily regularized in 2024-25, a revelation that the Union described as "unthinkable" and indicative of the severe erosion of public service integrity in the state.
In response to this injustice, the DNSU has vowed to launch democratic forms of protest to ensure the protection of the rights and interests of the student community. The Union also appealed to all right-thinking citizens and organizations to speak up against this blatant violation of justice.
"The DNSU stands firm in its commitment to ensuring that merit and transparency prevail in the recruitment of educators, thereby safeguarding the future of higher education in Nagaland," it stated.
