DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 21 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has submitted a memorandum to Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, urging action on multiple long-standing issues affecting the district, including the enforcement of the Inner Line Permit (ILP), educational infrastructure, and land encroachment concerns.
In the memorandum, DNSU while acknowledging the implementation of the ILP in Dimapur, highlighted the ongoing problem of illegal immigration. “The issue of unabated illegal immigrants persists,” the memorandum stated. The union urged the formation of a dedicated district task force that would include civil society organizations (CSOs) to ensure more effective enforcement of the ILP. The DNSU also raised concerns about the non-operational status of the science block at Dimapur Government College, which was inaugurated in 2020. “We appeal for your intervention to operationalize the Science stream, unlocking its potential for academic excellence,” the union said.
Additionally, the memorandum pointed out that more than 1,800 students applied for limited seats at the college, calling for “upgradation and construction of additional rooms to accommodate students.”
Allegations of land encroachment involving government properties were also highlighted. “Many lands belonging to the government have been encroached by unscrupulous people in cahoots with some government officials,” the DNSU claimed. They urged the formation of a committee to collect reports from various departments and submit them to the chief minister’s office for action. The union assured its “unwavering support in this matter.”
The union expressed appreciation for the inclusion of Dimapur Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with work expected to begin in March. However, the memorandum raised concerns about land encroachments stalling progress. “It has been noted that most of the landowners are former government officials and former public leaders,” it read. The DNSU urged the state government to address the issue “with iron hands” to ensure the development of the station proceeds without hindrance.
