Do serious analysis of ‘rampant unabated multiple taxation’: FNR urges NPGs

Dimapur, April 29 (MExN): A meeting of the apex Naga civil society organisations (CSO), the Church and the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) on April 27 discussed the “rampant unabated multiple taxation” in the State with deep concern and highlighting that it is the common man and woman who suffer.

Accordingly, the Forum in “much anguish” has called upon the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) to do a “serious socio-political analysis” on the issue and expressed hope that NPGs will have the courage to address the matter without further delay.

“The present ‘here and now’ (existential) quest for economic survival is a dangerous sign of political bankruptcy,” it added.

Meanwhile, as per the FNR, the April 27 meeting was held to express appreciation to the NPGs for their commitment to cooperate on the essentials of the Naga political and historical rights and call upon all Naga citizens and people of Naga-Land, to offer critical solidarity during this period of renewed “co-operation” among the NPGs.

Consequently, in the meeting of the Church and the apex Naga CSOs agreed to support the Naga Plebiscite Day, May 16 programme to be held in Dimapur and called upon all to render their full support to the Naga historical mark having an abiding significance.

In strongest terms, they also asserted that “Whatever the nature of differences within the Naga family… violence of words, statements, and bloodshed will not be accepted by the Naga people” and “guard against the deep rifts that divide us, and commit to transcending group differences through cooperation” as resolved in the 14 September, 2022, in the “September Joint Accordant.”

The meeting also expressed gratitude to the NPGs for honouring the “Covenant of Reconciliation (CoR) and conveyed that Church and the apex CSOs in Naga-Land diligently watch for “continuing the commitment to follow the CoR in letter and in spirit.”

The meeting also welcomed the decision by the NPGs to approve the ‘Naga National Anthem’ written and composed by the late R Kevichusa on April 13 and noted that all Nagas must learn the anthem.

The Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC), Global Naga Forum (GNF), Naga Hoho (NH), Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), Naga Students Federation (NSF), Nagaland Gaon Bura Federation (NGBF), Nagaland Joint Christian Forum (NJCF), Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC), and United Naga Council (UNC) were the attendees of the meeting.
